Meet Dr. Flor Leal (She/Her/Hers)

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and moved to College Station, Texas after graduating from high school. I earned three degrees from Texas A&M University, with the last being a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 2011. I completed my pre-doctoral training in sunny California at Pacific Clinics, where I was fortunate to continue my training in counseling a diverse population. During my years in counseling I have focused my work in serving people throughout the life-span from children to senior adults. My most recent years have been dedicated to helping individuals with chronic illnesses, caregivers, and people at the end of life. I practice in the DFW area and when i’m not at work I enjoy cooking, crafting, and spending time with my family and cats. I consider myself a very approachable person, warm, and caring. I am passionate about helping others and living a meaningful life. Helping others find joy and meaning in their life is a part of my life’s mission.

Available Services

Individual
Therapy

Life isn’t easy. It is during these difficult times that it can seem overwhelming to face things alone. Stress and mood changes can cloud our judgement and make it more difficult to problem-solve. Through cognitive-behavioral techniques I can guide you in finding relief.

Therapy
for Seniors

There are specific challenges that we face as we become older. Sleep patterns may change, your bodily functions may change, or you can be dealing with problems with others in your life. I have the clinical experience to help you face your specific concerns with special consideration of challenges experienced in later life.

Family Therapy

Are you and family facing a difficult situation? Are you feeling stuck and don’t know how to move forward? In counseling you can confront the problem straight-forward and find your personal strengths to help you overcome any challenge.

Caregiver
Support

Taking care of another person is both rewarding and extremely challenging. It can be a very lonely experience that can elicit many complicated feelings. I am here to help you in navigating your individual caregiver situation in order to maximize your personal care and that of your loved one.

Parenting

If only parenting came with a handy manual! Whether you are struggling with adjusting to becoming a new parent or dealing with an oppositional teenager, through counseling I can teach you new ways to confront your situation.

Bereavement
Support

Loss is one of the most difficult things we can face in life. We all deal with loss in different ways and all deserve the space to grieve in a safe environment. I am here to accompany you on your grief journey, whether it be the loss of a pet, a loved one, or of a role in life. Don’t suffer in silence; you are not alone.

Psycho-Oncology/ Chronic Illness

Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with cancer? Are you in remission but having a difficult time adjusting? Are you living with chronic pain or other symptoms related to cancer or its treatment? I am here to help you navigate this tough time in your life. Emotional distress does not have to further complicate your battle against cancer.

When you have experienced a traumatic event, it can change life as we know it.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) can help you to move past the pain this event has caused in your life. Whether this event happened when you were a child or recently, ART can help you find relief in as little as 1-5 sessions.

“ART has roots in and includes elements of existing evidenced-based modalities. The treatment program incorporates memory visualization techniques that are enhanced by the use of horizontal eye movements, as well as memory reconsolidation, a way in which new information is incorporated into existing memories.” (Art International Training and Research)

  • ART sessions are conducted in person and require a minimum scheduling of 1 assessment session and 1 ART session. ($150 per session)
  • Sessions are typically from 45-75 minutes.
